De Castella Run to Mend Minds

20140831_0942222It’s that time of year again and we’re totally rapt to be supporting the 2015 De Castella Run now in its 35th year! The ‘Deek Run’ will be held at Kew Boulevard again this Sunday 30 August, 2015. It’s one of Melbourne’s best running and fun events, with a choice of 5km, 10km, 0r 15km courses along the scenic Yarra River route.

And if you don’t want to run, you can always walk the course. All ages can participate, including children with the Run Ready program for Kids, which involves an 80m dash.

You don’t have to be a running or walking to soak up the atmosphere of this special community event.  The Kickass Active Mind and Body Expo has something for everyone; from face painters, a petting zoo and a jumping castle for the kids, to physio treatments, merchandise and food vendors. Our market style expo captures all the excitement and energy of the day as the runners cross the finishing line.

The de Castella Run 2 Mend Minds is proud to partner with the Monash Alfred Psychiatry research centre (MAPrc) to help raise awareness and funds for mental health research.  MAPrc carries out world class research to improve the lives of people suffering from mental illness. Funds from this year’s run will go towards supporting scholarships for PhD students to undertake vital mental health research at MAPrc.

AquaForce and Triathlon Victoria partnership

trivic-logoWe’re wrapt to announce that the coaching staff at Triathlon Victoria (TriVic) loved AquaForce so much that we’re now their official drink partner.  So, all you triathletes out there, make sure to look out for the AquaForce drink stations at all TriVic races this year and especially for the big one at Yarrawonga on 18 and 19 October.

Things to look out for when trying AquaForce are noticeable improvements in performance and endurance and a more rapid recovery.  It’s also light on the stomach and tastes great.  We’ve put a lot into the palatability of AquaForce and made sure it’s all natural with no artificial ingredients whatsoever.  Try it out at the drink stations and see for yourself!

Some of this year’s TriVic race dates are:

Sunday 14th Sept - Melbourne Triathlon club
Sunday 5th Oct - Yarra Triathlon Club
Saturday and Sunday 18 and 19 October - Yarrawonga

De Castella Fun Run 2014

deekrun2014It’s coming up to that time of year again as the last Sunday in August is fast approaching.  This means that it’s time to get your running shoes out to blaze through the the scenic boulevards of Kew’s Studley Park region in this year’s De Castella Fun Run this coming Sunday 31 August, 2014.  This year Robert De Castella - “Deeks” -  himself will be there. So, get inspired and come down on the day and participate.

Funds raised are donated to the Monash and Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre which does invaluable research into mental illness and its prevention.  Statistics tell us that one person in every five may experience mental illness in their lifetimes, making this is a cause worthy of your support.  The other cause worthy of support is your fitness which the run is bound to help you with!  The weather forecast tells us that it will warm at 20 degrees and sunny so come and enjoy the fun this year. We hope to see you there. Make sure you say hi to us at the AquaForce drinks station at the finish line and best of luck to all competing!

A Great Run at Monza for Mitch Van Vliet

With the sun shining it was great to see the track in good condition compared to 2 years ago where there was nothing but mud and rain.

After walking the track, all 3 team mates were set to make their mark in the first round of the QRCV motocross Series for 2013.

Mitch had a great time getting 2 of the 3 holeshots and then continuing on to race some great races. In the last moto, showing his skill and agility Mitch held a spectacular lead over the rest of the field giving him overall 1st place on the podium on the day.

To keep up his race fitness, Mitch also decided to jump on board his Yamaha 450cc 2 wheel bike taking all 3 holeshots in the Open Class.

“I had a great weekend which is fantastic preparation for the up and coming Monster Energy MX Nationals in South Australia.  The Yamaha didn’t miss a beat and Im extremely happy with the way everything is coming together” Mitch stated

Harrison, having a hiccup on board his quad, must think he’s jinxed as he has had a few problems.  Having a great start in the first moto coming a comfortable 2nd, Harrison managed to snap a bolt on the hard packed track, however coming back in fine form Harrison once again entertained the crowd with a display of ’showmanship’ on little brother Coopers Yamaha 300cc in the last race to keep his points up.

Harrison commented “I’m having a bit of bad luck but we are ironing out all the hiccups so when it comes to the Nationals we will be in full swing. I love the new Yamaha and feel very confident on board”

Once again it was left up to Cooper to take up the battle with the Junior Class. Loving the race scene and being part of the WPS Yamaha ATV Race team is proving a great step up for young Cooper. In all 3 motos Cooper threw his quad at the jumps, railing the berms and avoiding the dust. Winning one moto confidently and coming a close 2nd in the other 2, left Cooper with points to take a very comfortable 2nd.

Once again the team would like to thank their following sponsors for their continual generosity, support and belief in the team:-

Yamaha Australia. WPS, Hardiman ATV, Quad Squad, Vanika Industries, AquaForce, Prestige Personal Training, B & B Aluminium, Vortex Ignitions, Fox Shoxs, Lone Star, Austraco , Fury Tyres and DWT.

De Castella Fun Run 2012

AquaForce is a major sponsor of the 32nd annual De Castella Run to be held on Sunday, 26 August, 2012. The Run traces the footsteps of Robert De Castella, Australia’s legendary marathon runner, along the picturesque bends and inclines of the Kew Boulevard. The boulevard winds around the scenic Yarra River where Rob trained as a school boy to make him one of the world’s strongest marathon runners.

The De Castella Fun Run raises money for Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre (www.maprc.org.au) which has 2010 Australian of the Year Professor Pat McGorry as its patron. Entrants can choose to compete individually or as teams in three distance classes: 5km, 10km and 15km. Last year, the event attracted nearly 2000 participants making one of the biggest fun runs in Melbourne and raised over $20,000 in funds used to support both life-enhancing and life-saving research for patients affected by mental health issues.

Please come along this year individually or with a team of your friends and family to show your support for Mental Health Research. To enter, visit the de Castella run site at www.decastellarun.com.au.

To make this event run smoothly, a team of volunteers is needed to help with registration, bib distribution/collection, course marshalling, and other duties. You will be provided with a full briefing and a support bag. So, if you are an organised superstar and want to volunteer for this crucial role, please contact Dennyse Riach on 03 9076 5167 or email d.riach@alfred.org.au.

Jehi Willis’ Season Update

Well with the 2012 off road racing season well under way, I must say that I haven’t exactly missed all the preparation that goes into the pre season and the organizing and training your butt off!!  I’ve taken a step back from the professional racing scene this year, concentrating on work and the new addition to our family, my son Reed.

I was hoping to continue riding socially with my mates but so far haven’t found the time, a good break never hurts so I will get back in the saddle soon enough!  I would like to say a big thanks to the guys at AquaForce for all their support during my racing career, they really do have a great product that I will continue to use if I’m riding, doing a bit of training or even to get through a long hot day at work.

Back to the racing, things have been shaken up a little this year with some young guys really stepping up their pace and dicing it with the previous Australian champs in Toby Price(KTM) and Chris Hollis (KTM), Young Yamaha team mates Matt Phillips from Tasmania and a friend of mine and local Victorian Daniel Milner are on fire so far this year and obviously put in a lot of effort over the summer break.  Price currently leads the Championship with Milner in 2nd and Matt Phillips in 3rd, but all that could change quickly as there are plenty of others also riding really well and one mistake could see you out of the top ten.

That’s all from me for now, next time I hope to be telling you about all the road cycling or mountain biking I’ve been doing…….
Cheers,
Jehi.
